College Postgraduate Research Committee Remit
The remit of CPRC is to:
1. Formulate and drive forward policy and strategy relating to postgraduate researcher training in line with College and University strategic planning.
2. Promote good practice in researcher training and professional development for Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) students.
3. Provide support for PGR supervisors through both College and School provision of supervisor briefing events.
4. Hold monthly Examination Boards for the consideration of External Examiner reports. The College Postgraduate Research Board of Examiners will act as a progression board and consider progression matters relating to PGR students in the College, including annual review recommendations, concession requests and exclusions.
5. Oversee good governance of PGR within the College, ensuring a consistent approach to governance of PGR students within Schools, such as annual reviews and student progression, whilst recognising that some diversity will be required where beneficial to the students. Disseminate good practice on PGR governance, and address issues arising from quality assurance reviews.
6. Represent the career development interests of PGR students in the College. Increase awareness and participation in career development programmes for research students. Support the creation and development of both high-level training skills and generic skills, which support the training of researchers and enhance their career development opportunities.
7. Engage with the opportunities and issues arising from surveys of PGR students in CSE and wider student experience initiatives.
8. Encourage and support the development of School, Interdisciplinary, and College-wide PGR communities.
9. Respond constructively to any changes, initiatives and developments external to the College that relate to PGR training. Report on, and inform, discussions of University level committees and groups relating to PGR provision.
10. Discuss developments and initiatives being developed by Vitae in relation to PGR and career development. Engage with external organisations such as Universitas 21, League of European Research Universities (LERU), Coimbra Group, UNICA, UNA-Europa, research charities, Scottish Funding Council (SFC), UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and other Research Councils, to provide prepare for future developments in PGR training.
