School Learning and Teaching Committee Remit

The School Learning and Teaching Committee is a sub-committee pf the School Policy and Resource Committee (SPARC) and has responsibility for the strategis overview and enhancement of all taught programmes within the School of GeoSciences, in accordance with requirements set by University Quality Assurance and Enhancement processes, academic policy and the Student Experience Project.

The remit of the committee is:

  • Responsible for the planning, policy and strategy of the School's learning and teaching.
  • Strategic overview of all undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.
  • Oversight of staff teaching related professional development and training opportunities.
  • Approving new or major programme and course proposals arising from its sub-committees in advance of Board of Studies and College approval; including ensuring viability of programmes and courses.
  • Ensuring recommendations from the Teaching and Assessment Working Group are embedded within the curriculum.
  • Oversight of marketing and recruitment strategy for taught programmes and approval of final student intake targets as part of the yearly planning submission to College.
  • Oversight of internationalisation and widening participation strategies for taught programmes.
  • Discuss issues referred to them by its sub-committees and receive verbal reports as well as minutes from its sub-committees.
  • The committee has delegated authority from SPARC to approve the allocation of resource (human and fiscal) within agreed budgets, making recommendations to SPARC for matters that require resource investment.
  • The committee delegates responsibility for operational management of undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes to the following sub-committees: Postgraduate Learning and Teaching Committee, and Undergraduate Learning and Teaching Committee
